Description

The Teeling Distillery is home to both heritage and whiskey. The Teeling family has run its whiskey business since 1782, when Walter Teeling set up a small distillery on Marrowbone Lane in the historic distilling district of Dublin. In 2015, Jack and Stephen Teeling, the ancestors of Teeling Whiskey makers, proudly opened the new building near the original family distillery in the Golden Triangle. Today, The Teeling Whiskey Distillery is regarded as the first new Distillery in Dublin for over 125 years.

Unique experience
The Distillery is located just a stone's throw from the site where the family distillery once stood. Since opening in 2015, tour guides have invited visitors on a journey to explore a working distillery. It's a chance to observe the complete whiskey-making process, from milling and mashing to the maturation. Teeling Whiskey embodies the unconventional spirit, with innovation and a vision of doing things differently. The content of the bottle is what matters. They let the liquid talk at the Distillery, as it has much to tell.

The delicate whiskey base serves as a perfect ground for cultivating flavour and character. Flavour subtlety and complexity are achieved by varying the time, style, and number of barrels used during maturates. The team celebrates their own Dublin-distilled spirit coming of age, meaning they can craft unique styles and expressions in the future.

After putting all this care and attention into making whiskey, they don't remove anything. Chill filtering does not apply, allowing the whiskey to hold body, character, and richness. The whiskey is brought from cask strength to 46% ABV without chill filtration, which helps maintain the genuine qualities of all Teeling Whiskeys.

Sustainable practices
Sustainability is the soul of Teeling Whiskey Distillery's philosophy and an integrated part of its operations. Due to the use of sustainable raw materials and the implementation of sustainable production processes, the company has been granted the top award of 'Sustainable Distillery of the Year'. The following initiatives are to be implemented soon: the reinforcement of a rainwater harvesting system and energy optimisation measures. Using excess energy produced during the production process to heat our visitor centre sounds great.

The Distillery is a verified Origin Green member. The world's only national food and drinks sustainability programme drives sustainability improvements across the supply chain. It allows Ireland's food industry to set and achieve measurable sustainability targets. The essentials are raw material sourcing, manufacturing processes, and social sustainability. Every stage of the supply chain undergoes independent accreditation and verification. The company always takes advantage of the opportunity to collaborate with fellow Origin Green members. For example, the distillery sources malted and unmalted barleys from companies with Origin Green certificates.

Distillery tours
Visitors who have been to Jameson Distillery can compare tours. While the Teeling Whiskey tour might be far from as good as the one at Jameson, it is still a fun experience you don't want to miss while in Dublin.

The tour is mainly self-guided, which may disadvantage some tourists. The tour begins in a room where you can read about Teeling's history. While learning more about the brand is fantastic, it could be more interactive. Next is the best part of the experience: the distillery room. Teeling still distils its whiskey in Dublin, so visitors can walk through the room where the whiskey goes through the crafting process. This part of the tour truly makes it worth visiting. The smell in here is stunning!

A guide will explain the whiskey-making process. You can ask questions even if your knowledge of whiskey is limited. Additional signs clarify anything further. Then, you move to the next room, where another enthusiastic and helpful guide will share some information about the evaporation process of whiskey and how it influences the taste.

After this room, you are welcome to the last part of the tour, accompanied by yet another guide: the tasting experience. Although all packages include the same tour of the Distillery, the only difference is the types of drinks you get to taste after it.

The tasting packages to choose from are as follows:

Teeling Tasting €20 (Teeling Small Batch & Handcrafted Whiskey Cocktail)
Teeling Trinity Tasting €25 (Teeling Small Batch, Single Grain & Single Malt)
Distillery Select Tasting €30 (Teeling Small Batch, Single Malt, Distillery Exclusive & Single Pot Still)

The tasting experience might appear disappointing, especially for those who want to learn more about whiskey while sampling. Moreover, all three packages are put together in one room, but you are given different glasses of whiskey depending on your chosen tour. Instead of sampling and comparing different whiskey brands, Teeling's whiskey is available only. While that should be fine, it would be great to hear more details about what to look for when trying them. Since most visitors are newbies in their first taste of whiskey, simply drinking the three whiskeys in front of them is not that engaging. Some curious tourists may leave dissatisfied as they have no idea if they are doing it right or what they should pay attention to.

Hire the venue
The Teeling Whiskey Distillery is an amazing venue for corporate meetings, family gatherings, and seated dinners. As the first operational Distillery in over 125 years, it is the ideal choice for whiskey fans. Moreover, a complementary tour is included in each of the event packages. Hosting your event in any of five unique and characteristic event rooms will add a distinguishing touch. The capacity of the first floor is 250 persons in standing reception. The exhibition space is perfectly suitable for seated dinners and presentations. Enjoy your private event outdoors with gorgeous views of Dublin from the terrace bar.

Additional info
If you wish to skip the tour, you can sample some of the large range of award-winning whiskeys at the Bang Bang Bar. It is open seven days a week, and no booking is required. The Distillery offers Exclusive Whiskey which can be personalised with a name, date or message on the label, making it a truly special gift or keepsake.
